This interactive includes 12 existing solutions to reduce carbon emissions from human activities. Use the information you have about each solution to create combinations of solutions that will reach the 2050 goal for atmospheric carbon (785-835 GtC, marked by the green line).
For each set of solutions run in the interactive: (1) Watch what happens to carbon in the atmosphere and fossil fuels; then (2) interpret the graph to see if the set of solutions reached the goal.
Create additional combinations of solutions until you find a combination that reaches the carbon goal and is also feasible for communities to enact.
Make a copy of the handout or get one from your teacher.
Test different solutions in the interactive and record the results.
Across all scenarios tested, think about:
Which scenarios seem possible? Is there more than one option?
As you made a decision, what tradeoffs did you discuss when choosing one set of solutions over different sets of solutions?
What are the greatest challenges to the success of the scenarios?
