How does carbon move between plants and air?

Updated: Feb 14

We can gather more information about the relationship between plants and air by watching an animation that zooms in more closely to what is happening inside and outside of plants.

Watch the animation twice. The first time you watch it, pay attention to the molecules that are involved. The second time you watch it, pay attention to what is happening to the molecules when they react.

Discuss with your group or class:

  • What happened when the molecules reacted?

  • What molecules were present at the start of the reaction? Where did they come from?

  • What molecules were present at the end of the reaction? Where did they go?

  • What happened to the atoms in the molecules?

  • How does this animation help you answer the question, what is the relationship between plants and air?
