Soil Respiration Reading

Updated: Mar 11

We have some ideas for how carbon is released from the soil. Now, we will gather evidence from text to help us figure out ways carbon is released from soil.

  1. Discuss with a partner: What question are we trying to answer and what should we pay attention to in the text to answer our question?

  2. Read the text.

  3. Discuss with a partner:

    - What are bugs and bacteria eating in the soil?

    - What processes take place in the soil that move carbon around and into the air?

    - What role do these processes play in the global carbon cycle?

  4. Be prepared to share your answers to the questions with the class.
