The Keeling Curve Video

Updated: Feb 18

The Keeling Curve is a record of CO2 concentrations in the atmosphere. The measurements have been taken daily from the top of Mauna Loa in Hawaii since 1958.

Watch the video to gather more evidence that will help us figure out if plants are good solutions for reducing carbon dioxide on a global scale. Watch the video twice. The first time you watch it, pay attention to the text on the screen and the pattern that has been observed over time. The second time you watch it, focus on fluctuations in the data.

Discuss with your group or class:

  • What could be causing the fluctuations in data over time?

  • What could be causing the fluctuations in the pre-Industrial Revolution data obtained from ice cores?
