Soil and Carbon Lab

Updated: Feb 27

View a lab to investigate how carbon is released from the soil and what could be giving off the carbon. The question we are investigating is: How is carbon released from the soil?

As you view the video of the lab investigation, record your observations and findings on the handout.

  1. Make a copy of the handout or get one from your teacher.

  2. Read the procedures for Part 1. Ask questions about the procedures.

  3. Complete Part 1 of the investigation. Pay attention to the right column of your handout. This is where you will write your results.

  4. Discuss the final results with your group.

  5. Discuss the Part 1 questions with your group. Record your group’s ideas.

  6. Be prepared to discuss results and your answers to the questions with the class.

  7. Repeat steps 1 through 6 for Part 2 of the investigation.
